Hi Guys I think I made it here. :)
So lets roll up our sleeves and get to the fun stuff. Here are some topics to ponder.

Land - I think we should put the land in some sort of trust to protect it, and make it community as well.

Building plans - I was think if we break the village into phases it wouldn't be to overwhelming, and help us focus. Something like...
Phase 1 - First dwelling, Water collection, animals, crops, green house, fruit trees & bushes.
Phase 2 - Map out permaculture w/ room for new houses and out buildings to come into being. 2nd dwelling

Building a community - How to decide on guide lines for community self government (for lack of a better term). Dancing Rabbit is a community eco village we could learn from http://www.dancingrabbit.org/ and they have a section on how they do somethings

How do we bring new people in? At Dancing Rabbit people go volunteer and hang out a while in the village, then take a working vacation of a few weeks to see how they& there familys fit into the group. Sort of try it on for size.

Family Life style - I'd like very much for us to have a child friendly community. And this gets us into a substance management and abuse discussion. So when does use become abuse and when do we talk with that person. Should we do so privately first, then if the behavior continues we make it an open topic at family meetings. Umm I think we might want an open family meeting and one without kids... since thats not such a kid friendly topic...

I'd like to see a few businesses run on the farm. A tea co, tinctures, essential oils, maybe a seed co. Can we grow all that we need to do these off grid?

Co op health coverage - Something Dave mentioned yesterday, maybe we could check out a way to do health care for the group. Or should we just get where were going and barter with the local Doc/ DDS?

I see a lot of property for sale in our price range south east of crater lake. Does anyone know anything about the area? Jen and I were thinking of taking a trip to go look at some of these Jan 1-3. Any input? Dave or Amber care to join us?

Hey Amber, it's Chrissy. I'm not sure how to post info on the blog execpt like this. Are there other sections or catagories or something? I was thinking that Jen and I could post the names of the books we've been reading and some cliff notes or something. Is there a better place to do that that right here?

Hello lovelies...
In honor of getting to know you all better here is a bit about this life.
I was born in Texas to biker hippie parents who were a little redneck and a lot practical. My grandparents on one side were dairy farmers and missionaries on the other. ( I haven't losty any interest in spirituality or gardening.)I have one lil sister who has an adorable daughter and a few aunts I keep in touch with. I moved here to Oregon 7.5 years ago and have been in and around Portland that entire time. Though just this morning my boss invited me to move out to the farm I work at and I am giving that some thought. Its 30 mins from North Portland and will give me an opportunity for some hands on training in farm life. Could benefit us all.

I get along with most people who are respectful, honest and hard working. I don't abide laziness or ugly gossip very well. Skills and interests include knitting,biking,writing, spinning,canning,blending incense, essential oils, making medicine in tincture,salve, oil and capsule form, pottery, glass work, listening to and playing a bit of music, painting (both houses and canvases), doodlin, baking,all kinds of cooking really, gardening, kayaking, swimming, hiking, reading a plethora of non fiction subjects mostly spiritual and primitive skill building. My spiritual life is of the utmost importance to me so my studies and practices are paramount. I am not dogmatic or judgmental in my approach, however it does take up a large part of my social time.

There is a lot more but thats a good start. I am pretty frank when it comes to communication and appreciate that from others. Frank does not equal rude in my book. Important things to me about the place I am gonna hang my hat have to do with a real sense of community and communication. I want to live among others who will relish the hard work its going to take and not be afraid of getting dirty. I need to live/work around people are are responsible with their drug and alcohol intake. That doesn't mean I want to mommy anyone but I wont fit into an environment that has excessive partying. I am concerned about what the process will be for new people being approved and would like this discussed at some length. I have people I love who id like to have an opportunity to invite should the need arise and am very open to others doing just that. I'd just like to have a clear discussion beforehand as to that process.

In terms of my dream place, I think that it has to be organic and grow from the dreams and ideas of everyone involved. I would like it to be sustainable, simple, self supporting and work in a way that we focus on our natural talents when possible and pitch in on the icky jobs so no one gets stuck out. And there would be kids. I love the lads and the elderly so a few of those sprinkled around would make my heart sing. I'd even be into teaching classes to kids about nature, and sustainability. That would be dope.

Not sure what else to include here but feel free to ask anything you like and I'll do my best to furnish a concise answer.

Also Amber has been working on a blog for us to all start communicating better.
I am officially proposing that Amber be a part of our crazy little farm.
I don't know what the procedure is for someone to be approved, so If anyone has any ideas that would be great.
In the meantime, please ask her any questions you have and vice versa, Amber please feel free to drill any of us about anything.
So officially communication has been opened.

I personally think that excepting newby into our strange little group of people should be a unanimous decision. Hopefully all of us will feel the same way.

Greetings Fellow Pioneers,
Per Dave's request, I set up this little diddy for the farm peeps to communicate easier and organize thoughts, plans, ideas, etc. As time goes on I'll add features to make online meetings, link and photo sharing even easier. Since it's a group blog likely to have a lot of information, it might be a good idea to stick to the topic at hand, cause if we all start adding forwards and internet jokes, it will just be that much more info to wade through. In order to make it easier to look back through old posts please use a clear and concise title for each addition. For instance, if you going to add some links, make the subject line "links- property companies or links-sustainable design ideas". Or" if its a how to video "Video- How to build a canoe" This will make organization and ease of use much easier. As we add information, I will add categories which will make it even easier to find what we are looking for. If there are features you would like to see added here, please make suggestions and I'll see what we can do!
